‘I’d never run 5km, now I’m doing a half-marathon’

A man who is taking on a half-marathon for the first time said his life was transformed when he joined a running club tackling mental health.

A man who is completing a half-marathon for the first time said his life was changed when he joined a running club that addresses mental health.
Nathan Parris, from Ipswich, has joined the Harmonious Wellness Club, which is headed by former Ipswich Town players Luke Chambers and Emyr Huws.
On Sunday, he will run the Ipswich Half Marathon, which begins at 09:30 BST from Town’s stadium on Portman Road.
“Before this I’d never run a 5km in my life and now I’m running half-marathon distances out of nowhere, I feel great for it,” Mr. Parris shared.
“[Running] does wonders for your health as well – some of these run they’re at five o’clock in the morning.”You’ve completed 5 kilometers by six o’clock on Monday morning, and you’re feeling wonderful.
Mr Parris is also the chairman of the Ipswich Town Supporters Club and is known locally as the Ipswich Drummer since he brings his drum to every game.
He intended to do the 13.1-mile road event to assist Town star Marcus Stewart, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in September 2022.

The fan will raise funds for both the former footballer and the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, which Stewart supports on a monthly basis.
Mr Parris characterized the sickness as “horrible” and conceded to Stewart that he did not “know too much about it”.
“I’m aiming for [a time of] one hour 47 minutes,” Mr Parris said.
“If I beat that, someone said they’re going to donate £100 to Marcus Stewart and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.”
Mr. Parris stated that the Harmonious Wellness Club provided him with a “feeling of belonging”.
He encouraged anyone thinking about taking up running to “do it” and join the group.
The Ipswich Half Marathon is being organized by Run For All, and road closures throughout the route will begin an hour earlier at 08:30.

Last runners are expected to cross the finish line by 13:15, with roads reopening around 13:30.
