After devising a strategy to entice domestic talent to Hotspur Way in the summer, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has set his sights on signing Tyler Dibling of Southampton and Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.
Mathys Tel joined Spurs on an initial loan deal with the option to complete a permanent transfer worth up to £45 million from Bundesliga table-toppers Bayern Munich in the last hours of deadline day, making Spurs one of the busiest Premier League teams during the winter transfer window.
After reaching an agreement with Ligue 1 team Lens, Antonin Kinsky and Kevin Danso were also enticed to Tottenham halfway through the season, with an obligation to purchase the latter for £20.9 million. Postecoglou is collaborating closely with technical director Johan Lange to find potential future additions.
Spurs Set Sights on Dibling and Gittens Deals
Duo seen as options as north Londoners seek homegrown talent
According to GMS sources, Tottenham has made Dibling and Gittens their top targets after implementing a new transfer strategy to increase their domestic quota for the upcoming campaign. However, they are aware that they may have a difficult time closing both deals when they start negotiations.
Spurs may try to make money if Southampton is demoted to the Championship as they pursue Dibling, but the south coast team decided during the winter transfer window that they would not consider offers that were less than £55 million because they were desperate to retain the 19-year-old wide forward.
According to GMS sources, Tottenham nearly reached a breakthrough in their January agreement bid before determining that Saints’ demands were unachievable and that there was insufficient assurance that he intended to complete a mid-season switch. Gittens would also be a costly acquisition.
After putting himself at the forefront of Borussia Dortmund’s plans during a challenging season, the England under-21 international has an £80 million price tag going into the summer. Spurs will need to break their club record outlay if they want to win the race for his signature in the upcoming months.
Tottenham decided it would be impossible to recruit Gittens while the winter transfer window was open for business, GMS sources have learned, and they could face difficulties in their attempts to convince him to join Postecoglou’s charges as domestic rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are also circling.
Postecoglou Remains Interested in Guehi Move
Crystal Palace rejected big-money offer for central defender
According to GMS sources, Marc Guehi, a central defender for Crystal Palace, has also remained a top target for Tottenham despite being let down when they attempted to finalize a deal halfway through the season. However, Chelsea is the front-runner to reach an agreement, and there is more competition from abroad.
In the closing days of the winter transfer window, Spurs put the 24-year-old’s current employers to the test with a £70 million approach, but the Eagles resisted, and Postecoglou must decide whether to return to the bargaining table when the next chance presents itself.
According to GMS sources, Tottenham is trying to meet their homegrown quota, and Dibling, Gittens, and Guehi’s high valuations are major roadblocks. However, the north Londoners have been considering the problem since last summer and are feeling pressure to balance their squad build.
In addition to continuing to be keen in their pursuit of new homegrown talent, GMS sources recently disclosed that the Spurs investigated the prospect of signing Angel Gomes last month or tying him down to a pre-contract agreement before he left Lille as a free agent in the summer.
