Jordan Pickford has perplexed Sue Smith during an incident in the Premier League match between Everton and Leicester City.
Sean Dyche’s side earned their first Premier League point of the season with a 1-1 draw against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Saturday (September 21), due to Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half strike.
Although the Toffees dominated for much of the game, Sky Sports pundit Smith was left on the edge of her seat when Pickford almost dropped a Stephy Mavididi cross into his net under minimal pressure.
On Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (September 21, 15:35), she stated, “Oh my gosh.”
“Leicester City have been absolutely fantastic.” Thankfully, Jamie Vardy has returned to the pitch and appears to be well, but Jordan Pickford has just gotten away with one, which could be down to the weather.
“Mavididi picks up the ball on the left side and simply crosses it, and you think it’s an easy stop from Jordan Pickford, but he just comes to grab it at his near post.
“He runs like that, parries it, and it hits the crossbar and the post. You believe it has crossed the boundary, but it hasn’t; he manages to pick it up.
“Jordan Pickford will be very pleased that didn’t go in.”

Pickford has been a steady custodian for Everton in recent seasons, and it appears he has reserved all of his errors for the new season.
The England international has looked like a ghost of his former self in the first few weeks of the season, and while he got away with his blunder against the Foxes, it was due to luck more than judgement.
Of course, the weather conditions at the King Power Stadium made it difficult for the custodian to get a strong handle on the ball, but that type of cross should be routine for a keeper with Pickford’s expertise.
Hopefully, the England international will continue to settle in as the season progresses.
Dyche’s team lacks a Premier League-level custodian to replace him, so he must rely on his own abilities.
