Before the Derby, Preston North End rivals Blackburn Rovers received an unwanted diversion as a Southampton connection surfaced.

A potential transfer to Southampton has been linked to Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace, just hours before his team’s Lancashire derby against Preston North End today.

The news that a Premier League club has shortlisted their boss for a possible move away from Ewood Park is likely to have distracted the Liliwhites’ opponents as they concentrate on the much-anticipated game.

The unfortunate news comes from Football Insider, who states that St. Mary’s team is already looking for Russell Martin’s replacement despite the team’s underwhelming start to the current Premier League season.

The Saints management is apparently quite interested in Eustace, who has been leading Rovers since February. They are impressed with his performance at Ewood Park since taking over for Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Without a doubt, the visitors will be eager to extend that fantastic run at their Lancashire rivals’ stadium. Still, it’s hardly the ideal approach to concentrate on such a crucial game when there’s rumors that their manager might be taken somewhere.

Not that PNE will mind; after Ryan Lowe left in August, the Lilywhites are hoping for just their second league victory under Paul Heckingbottom.

For the noon kickoff, there will be more than 20,000 spectators inside Deepdale. Last season, PNE defeated Rover by four points. They will want to score similarly against their opponents this season, which will undoubtedly damage Eustace’s reputation following his dismissal from Birmingham.
