Although the Reds have two European Cups under their belt and were once a dominant force in English football, they have struggled to find success in recent years. In a different universe, Oliver Burke would be one of the names added to that list, but regrettably, his career has worked out the way many expected it to. Burke had been at their academy for nearly ten years, and Forest had high expectations for him once he made his professional debut at the age of 17. Burke saw an increase in playing time with the first team in the 2015–16 season, but his major breakout came in the opening few games of the 2016–17 campaign.

Oliver Burke was a teenager when Forest manager Philippe Montanier started him in four of the team’s opening five games of the 2016–17 campaign because he liked what he saw in the young player. This was a wise move. Burke had a lot of excitement at the moment after scoring four goals in four starts. The teenage player was approached by German team RB Leipzig late in the 2016 summer transfer window, and Nottingham Forest was paid £13 million to sign him. Unfortunately, the Scotsman’s five-year contract with RB Leipzig was only fulfilled for a single year. After substituting in for Borussia Dortmund in his debut match, he helped create the game’s lone goal, but that was the high point of his stint.
He made 21 appearances during the season, primarily as a substitute, and managed just one goal before West Brom paid £15 million to bring him back to England. Burke, who is currently 27 years old, has fallen short of the high standards set for him when he was a young player making his Nottingham Forest debut. After earning his significant promotion to the Bundesliga, he returned to the EFL where he has struggled with consistency after failing to turn things around.
The forward has been loaned to Celtic, Alaves, Millwall, and Birmingham City, among other teams, and he hasn’t made an impression anywhere he has played. Since Burke left Nottingham Forest in 2016, no team has truly been able to bring out the best in him.
