Daniel Farke will talk about Junior Firpo and Sam Byram’s contracts later on, but he acknowledges that Leeds United’s hectic summer has caused him to put their future lower on his list of priorities. The two full-backs’ current contracts are set to expire in June of next year, barring any unidentified triggers for extensions. Byram was in a similar situation the previous season, but his sheer volume of appearances had unintentionally triggered a one-year extension.
On January 1, Firpo and Byram will reach the last six months of their contracts, at which point they will be allowed to sign pre-contract deals with overseas teams. In Firpo’s case, it would be financially devastating to lose him for nothing after paying between £10 million and £15 million to get him from Barcelona.
