Champions League impact made by player Phillippe Clement would ‘love to get’ for Rangers

Rangers have had a difficult 2024 which didn’t get any better in the summer as Philippe Clement worked with one hand tied behind his back.

Rebuilding a squad is always easier when a manager is given finances to invest, but just about £7 million left the Ibrox coffers after departures.
One of the most difficult transfers of the summer was Rangers’ inability to return Abdallah Sima to the city where his first kid was born.

As the window progressed, optimism mounted that a deal may be reached; however, Rangers struggled to get players out, and Sima relocated to Brest.

Despite not being a particularly large team, they are nonetheless in the Champions League.

Sima has demonstrated his ability to compete on this scale by scoring the winning goal against Sturm Graz.

Clement expressed his wish to sign Sima during the summer, and it’s likely that he was the first to congratulate the 22-year-old. He stated, “I’ve been in touch with him, of course.”

“He is like one of my sons. Abda adores the club. Abda like the way we played last season and his involvement in it. He adored his teammates and the staff.

“But at the end of the day, Brighton is the owner, so it’s all about the money.” At the moment, it is impossible. But we’ll see what happens along the way because we’d love to have him back. We’ll see if it’s doable.

Can Rangers return for Sima?

To make matters worse, when Sima signed for Brest, he did not send a meaningful parting note to Brighton, but rather to Rangers:

“It is time for me to say goodbye to a club for which I have a lot of passion and have had a great deal of fun playing.

“It’s tough to find the right words, but I’d like to thank everyone at the club, including my teammates and, most importantly, you, the supporters, who have always been there for me and the club. You are the one that makes this club exceptional!

“Thank you also to Michael Beale for providing me the opportunity to play for this fantastic club, and to Philippe Clement for allowing me to fulfill my dream of winning a title with this amazing club. “Come on, Rangers!”

Brest does not have the option to buy Sima, thus the Senegalese international will return to the south coast at the end of the season.

By that point, he will only have a year left on his contract, and Brighton will be eager to sell.

With Vaclav Cerny only on loan, Rangers will have room on the salary bill for a first-choice winger next summer, and Sima will be near the top of the shopping list since, aside from recent injury difficulties, he is virtually risk-free.

Unfortunately, if Sima continues to score goals in the Champions League, Rangers may be unable to finance him – again.
