Greater Manchester Police have apologised to Salford residents after sending out a helicopter early this morning (February 13).
Police utilized the chopper to react to reports of a burglary at a Tesco Express. Officers responded to the incident in Liverpool Road, Irlam, at 4.15 a.m. and detained two men, ages 41 and 24, who are still in prison.
The shop was closed when the incident occurred. A window at the front of the store was boarded up, and an area outside had been taped off.
Residents of Irlam and Urmston reported hearing a police helicopter circling above them in the early hours of the morning. There were at least two GMP vans outside the business.
GMP apologized to Irlam and Cadishead residents for the ‘early morning wake up’ in a Facebook post on the Salford Police page. One individual responded to the tweet by saying they could hear the chopper from Swinton.
Salford Police – GMP posted on Facebook, “#ARREST | We apologise for the early morning wake up in #Irlam and #Cadishead this morning, as our Police helicopter assisted us following a burglary at Tesco on Liverpool Road.”
“Two male adults have been arrested for burglary and remain in custody.”
In an earlier statement, a GMP spokeswoman said: “At 4:15am this morning (Thursday, February 13), police were alerted to complaints of an attempted burglary on Liverpool Road in Irlam. Emergency services responded, and two guys were quickly apprehended on suspicion of burglary.”
A Tesco representative added: “Our Liverpool Road Irlam Express shop is now open and trading as usual after a brief closure early this morning (February 13, 2025). “We apologize for the inconvenience.”
