Bobby Madden bats for Celtic in a VAR defense, but one’maniac’ gets it tight – 10 Premiership decisions are reviewed.

Madden oversaw ten major judgments throughout four Premier League games.

Bobby Madden questioned the significance of two VAR decisions in Celtic’s victory against Hearts, but called Shaun Rooney a’maniac’ who should have been sent off for St Mirren.

Madden, a former Grade 1 referee, reviewed the Premiership action on social media, highlighting eleven decisions over four games that included VAR. Hearts were given a penalty for handball at Parkhead, but it was reversed after a VAR review. In the second half, Arne Engels scored for the Hoops from the spot.

The most of the VAR debate occurred in Paisley, with Derek McInnes criticizing Shaun Rooney for a ‘full-blooded volley’ on his player, followed by Joe Wright’s red card for a confrontation in the tunnel. There was a lot to unpack in Dingwall and Leith, and Madden captured it all on Instagram.

Celtic 2, Hearts 0.

Hearts were first denied a penalty after Colin Steven pointed to the spot for Liam Scales’ handball, which was then sent to the monitor for review. He ultimately changed his decision, and Madden stated, “Incorrect call by referee (originally), but very comprehensible live. I’d rather have a referee make the call than rely on VAR. “Good VAR intervention.”

James Penrice of Hearts is punished for handball against Celtic

And, on the spot-kick awarded at the opposite end following James Penrice’s handball, Madden supported VAR, saying: “Celtic penalty. Not identified on the field. The arms are out from the body, and the handball is penalized. “Good VAR intervention.”

St Mirren 2, Kilmarnock 2.

First up was Mikael Mandron’s late challenge, which Madden believes should have resulted in a second yellow. He remarked, “It was a reckless tackle.” A task like this cannot be managed. VAR definitely cannot get involved.”

On the Shaun Rooney incident that enraged McInnes, he added: “Like the big man, but he’s a maniac.” That is not a legitimate effort at the ball. SFP (severe foul play) occurs when the ball is present. I’m amazed there was no intervention. “There might be two red cards.

Kilmarnock received a penalty for handball from Joe Wright, and Madden concurred, adding, “Handball. Clear, arm away from the body. Referee should be able to watch it live because he is in a good position. “Good VAR intervention.”

Wright then received a red card for an alleged ‘punch’ on prior offender Rooney in the tunnel. “Any purposeful touch with that region is considered cruel, and a red card is punished for aggressive behavior. The referee has a difficult time seeing things live. “Good VAR intervention.”

And what about James Scott’s late, disallowed winner? “Goal disallowed.” Clear foul in the offensive phase of play (APP). Busy penalty area, but likely should be caught live. “Good VAR intervention.”

Ross County 2, Dundee 0.

“The Ross County punishment. If the defender lets go after the initial challenge, it is not punished, but you can’t drag a player to the ground with both hands. The referee will have tracked the ball, making it difficult for him to discern live action. Effective VAR intervention.

“Potential Dundee penalty. I prefer a penalty. Following an attacker’s touch past him, the defender makes a second movement and makes no contact with the ball. I’d also want VAR intervention. Others might not. When polls are so close, it appears that no action is required.

Hibs 2, St Johnstone 0

“Red card for SFP (to Benjamin Kimpioka). Call me old-fashioned, but I like the yellow card. I would want to see more communication with Red. People will say lunge, out of control, etc., but it comes from the side and across front of the opponent and does not jeopardize their safety. 71% want yellow, but I believe VAR will not interfere any way.”
