Zohore’s time at West Brom
There were undoubtedly some doubters about Zohore’s ability to score goals while playing for Cardiff when he signed a big contract to join West Brom. But these folks were definitely mistaken from the start.
Many were left wondering why West Brom, then under the leadership of Slaven Bilic, had paid £8 million for the Danish striker, who would only score 24 goals in 101 games for the Bluebirds overall.
While Zohore occasionally had a purple patch in front of goal in the capital of Wales, questions were legitimately made as to why the second-tier team chose to spend big money on an attacker who had previously been labelled as “lazy.”
The Scandinavian forward would just never settle at West Brom, with the towering 6 foot 2 striker only registering a lacklustre five goals from 23 appearances, before finding his contract had been torn up in 2023.
It’s not been any easier for the now 30-year-old attacker since his Baggies exit, with the former Denmark U21 international now unemployed after more goal-shy spells.
Zohore’s numbers since leaving West Brom
After being forced to leave for West Brom, Zohore relocated to Poland to play for Slask Wroclaw in an attempt to revive his faltering playing career.
However, his tenure in the Ekstraklasa turned out to be even more detrimental than his stint in the Premier League; earlier this year, Wroclaw released the 30-year-old, who is still without a club, due to his persistent lack of success.
Zohore would never end up breaking his goalscoring duck whilst playing for Wroclaw, with the frustrated attacker even demoted to the reserves during his brief but damaging stint at the club.
Whilst West Brom have messed up in the transfer market previously, Corberan and Co did get a lot of deals right in the last window, especially with the phenomenal deal to gain Mikey Johnston back on a permanent basis.
While out on loan last season, he helped himself to an incredible seven goals from only 18 games. West Brom managed to bring him back for permanently for just £3m, £5m less than Bilic and company paid for Zohore in what now seems like a huge mistake.
If the Baggies are promoted to the Premier League, Corberan won’t want any more misfires of this nature since the West Midlands team wants to keep running efficiently rather than making reckless financial decisions.
