‘Huge concern’ – Chris Davies offers swift update on Birmingham City star after worrying injury scenes

Birmingham City overcame Bradford City at St. Andrew’s on Tuesday night, securing their spot in the EFL Trophy Final. Although they had to work for the victory, BCFC’s 2-1 victory was sufficient to advance them to the semi-final.Just before halftime, the home team’s star striker Jay Stansfield gave them the lead, but Bobby Pointon tied the score seven minutes into the second half.

Although the visitors’ equalizer was controversial, Lyndon Dykes would go on to win it for the Blues with a header in the 88th minute. After falling in the box due to Romoney Crichlow’s challenge, goal scorer Stansfield was not given a penalty. He remained down as the Bantams broke and duly scored through Pointon.

Due to a knee injury, Stansfield would be carted off, which caused serious worries among Birmingham City personnel, players, and supporters. Blues manager Chris Davies gave an instant update following the game, acknowledging their “huge concern” before revealing that he had visited the hospital for examinations. Birmingham Live cited the BCFC head coach as saying:

It was higher than his knee. The player landed on him after a poor tumble. He went to the hospital for examinations. It’s clearly very concerning to be in that much pain and be taken off on a stretcher.”I believe the leg’s impact was the cause. It’s the impact’s intensity. That’s the thing that worries them. The issue is that the man has fallen on the bone. He went to the hospital because he was in a lot of discomfort, and they are hoping to receive more conclusive results in the coming hours.

A potentially devastating blow

The significance of Stansfield to Birmingham City is undeniable. He is unquestionably their greatest financial asset and the crown gem in this star-studded promotion-chasing team.

While scoring goals is undoubtedly important, the 22-year-old striker’s ability to bring other attackers into the game is also quite vital. He has 20 goals and two assists in 29 games for the Blues this season.

It would be devastating to lose him for a long time, but only time will tell how knee scans turn out.

Without him…

Birmingham City can take solace in the fact that they have a number of top-tier players who could replace Stansfield should he be sidelined for a while.

On Tuesday night, Alfie May was brought on off the bench, and Lyndon Dykes came on and scored the game-winning goal. Blues star Lukas Jutkiewicz is still listed after those two, despite having few opportunities this season.

As one of the EFL’s most prolific scorers in recent seasons, May is probably the front-runner to start at the top. Nevertheless, Dykes has contributed positively since being chosen, and BCFC may find great value in his higher-level pedigree.
