Simon Jordan takes swipe at David Beckham over Birmingham City atmosphere

Simon Jordan takes swipe at David Beckham over Birmingham City atmosphere.

After David Beckham and Tom Brady went to watch Birmingham City, Simon Jordan couldn’t help but make a subtle jab at Beckham’s favourite team, Inter Miami.

After David Beckham said that the atmosphere at Birmingham City’s St. Andrew’s at Knighthead Park was the best he had seen “in a long time,” Simon Jordan couldn’t help but take a subtle jab at the former football player.

Beckham was among the famous visitors at the Blues’ stadium on Monday night to watch Chris Davies’ team overcome Wrexham, another team vying for promotion from League One. Due to both sides’ recent high-profile US financial support, this third-tier encounter was imbued with an additional degree of glamour.

Actor Rob McElhenney was in the stands representing the guests, while co-owner and fellow movie star Ryan Reynolds was in the stands. Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl winner, was among the guests of Knighthead Capital Management, the hosts.

He attended the event with Beckham seated next to him; the night after, he was seen unannouncedly appearing on CBS’s Champions League coverage. He acknowledged, stating, “I haven’t seen an environment like that in a long time,” after speaking with Micah Richards, Jamie Carragher, and Thierry Henry, among others..”

He was unaware, though, that this remark would invite a clever jab from talkSPORT analyst Jordan, who replied via X, saying, “That’s probably true given he’s regularly watching #InterMiami,” and then winking with a tongue-out emoji.

Since retiring, the England legend has taken a similar path to Brady’s in that he has taken to club ownership in football, or ‘soccer’, as is coined in the United States. After years of planning, his Inter Miami franchise entered the MLS in 2020 and have since gone on to become one of the biggest names commercially in the sport.

This is because they have managed to bring in a number of Europe’s best players who are nearing the end of their careers, most notably Lionel Messi, followed by his former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, and Jordi Alba. In the past, the club has also featured Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi, and their coach for a spell was former Lionesses manager Phil Neville. However, the US league continues to challenge the tradition and fanbase of English football, possibly even reaching Birmingham in the third division with Brady and other well-known figures bringing attention to a team that hopes to play in the Premier League again.
