Early Tottenham Hotspur vs Brentford injury news with seven out and two doubts.
This coming Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur will play in another London derby, but this time, the match will take place in the Premier League against Thomas Frank’s Brentford. The game is being played just a few days after Spurs’ dramatic victory against Coventry City in the EFL Cup, where goals in the 88th and 90+1 minutes from Djed Spence and Brendan Johnson guaranteed Spurs’ advancement to the next round.
Ange Postecoglou has already faced criticism this week for implying that the Lilywhites’ supporters should expect hardware at the conclusion of the season, despite their early-season troubles. Though their thrilling cup victory against Coventry City will have done little to ease tensions, the Australian head coach will look to build on that success this weekend by defeating the injured Bees.
Postecoglou will want to rotate his stars as much as possible because both teams have Europa League matches to play within the next week. However, the following players from both camps are expected to miss this weekend’s Premier League match:
Brentford
Josh Dasilva – OUT
Midfielder Dasilva continues to recover from knee surgery that was undertaken in February. He is not expected back until late November.
Yoane Wissa – OUT
The most recent injury is to 28-year-old Wissa, who Thomas Frank confirmed will miss a “couple of months” due to an ankle injury sustained against Manchester City. “Unfortunately not good news – it looks like an injury that will be a couple of months,” Frank told the media about his forward. It’s really annoying.
Gustavo Gomez – OUT
Gomez sustained a minor stress fracture in his back and is now set to be out of action until at least mid-October. Ahead of Brentford’s meeting against Man City, Frank said of Gustavo: “Gustavo is a player I believe can help us soon – he is nearly ready. He’s got a minor stress fracture in the back, but it’s not a big issue. He will not be able to be on the bench for a few weeks.”
Mathias Jensen – OUT
Jensen was ruled out of the Bees clash with Man City following a small calf injury. Frank confirmed it should only be a couple of weeks before the central midfielder is back in action.
Rico Henry – DOUBT
Rico Henry has been sidelined for a year due to a mild musculoskeletal injury. It is anticipated that he will return in the upcoming few days of play. Frank stated last week that the left-back is still on course despite having a very small muscular issue. He is anticipated to be on the pitch tomorrow. Although it’s a setback, it’s not truly one as it has nothing to do with his knee.
Aaron Hickey – OUT
The Scottish international continues to be ruled out with no return date yet suggested. He initially suffered a thigh injury and most recently underwent a procedure that removed the previous repair sutures and making a new tendon repair.
Igor Thiago – OUT
The Brazilian forward underwent a successful surgery on a meniscus injury and won’t be back in action until at least ‘late 2024’.
Tottenham Hotspur
Richarlison – OUT
The Brazilian striker sustained an injury during warm-ups for Spurs’ most recent 2-1 loss to Newcastle. Head coach Postecoglou stated, “He’s in rehab and we are going to take it a big conservative with him,” indicating that a return is not anticipated until at least the end of the month.
Yves Bissouma – Doubt
Prior to the North London derby last week, the Australian head coach declared, “I’ll assume he’ll be right for after that if he doesn’t make Sunday.” While representing Mali on the international stage, Bissouma had a groin strain.
The EFL match against Coventry was too soon for the midfield player, according to recent reports, but “hopefully, there is a chance that he will be okay for the weekend.”
Wilson Odobert – Doubt
Halfway through the first half of the match against Coventry, Odobert was substituted off the pitch; the severity of his injury is still unknown.
