Dyche’s ‘Days are Numbered’ at Everton if They Lose Next Game

Everton manager Sean Dyche faces mounting pressure after a terrible start to the season. According to Liverpool Echo journalist Tony Scott, if Everton loses against Leicester City this weekend, Dyche’s tenure could be up.

The Toffees have had a dismal opening four Premier League games, failing to capture a single point. The Merseyside club was also knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by Southampton on Tuesday night, with pressure mounting on the former Burnley manager.

Dyche was able to pull a tune out of his Everton side last season, allowing them to remain up despite several point deductions, but things have gone sour since then.

It’s a must-win for the Everton boss

According to Liverpool Echo journalist Scott, if the Toffees lose to Leicester on Saturday, Dyche’s tenure is likely to end…

“If he loses to Leicester, I believe his days are numbered.” I believe he needs to take at least four points from his next two games against Crystal Palace and Leicester.”

Season Games Played Points
2022/23 18 21
2023/24 38 40* – (with 10pt deduction)
2024/25 4 0

Dyche has a history of making his teams difficult to beat and defensively solid, but that will all change in the 2024/2025 season. Everton have surrendered 13 goals this season, more than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues.

The Merseyside club is bottom of the standings with no points, and fans are understandably angry with what is going on at Goodison Park. It’s been a difficult start in terms of opponents, with Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Aston Villa, but there’s little excuse for Dyche when it comes to performance.

According to Sky Sports, Everton are now backing Dyche to turn things around. However, they may need to make a choice if things worsen. A defeat away to Leicester might change the picture. The Foxes are expected to be in or near the relegation zone this season, thus Everton must win this game if they are to avoid relegation.

Everton Fans Are Showing Their Frustration

They weren’t pleased with Dyche’s substitution

Dyche chose to substitute centre-forward Beto in the second half of Everton’s match against Southampton. The Toffees were at 1-1, but Dyche chose to put on full-back Ashley Young, leaving no striker on the pitch.

BBC correspondent Shamoon Hafez was there during the game and said that as the substitution was announced, ‘loud jeers’ erupted around the stadium. The fans inside Goodison Park made their views over Dyche’s decision obvious, while the Toffees failed to score another goal and were eliminated on penalties.
