Former Manchester United academy player/coach becomes Birmingham City assistant

Former Manchester United academy player/coach becomes Birmingham City assistant.

Former Manchester United academy player/coach Tom Huddlestone has been appointed as the new first-team assistant coach at League One outfit Birmingham City.

Tom Brady, a former NFL player, co-owns the West Midlands team, where Huddlestone was signed shortly after leaving United.

Huddlestone will succeed Ashley Cole, the former full-back for Chelsea and Arsenal, as assistant manager of Birmingham.

Huddlestone has participated in the England U21 squad since leaving United, though. He intends to carry on with this job while employed at Birmingham.

Huddlestone was formerly a coach and player for United’s youth. Although the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder never played for United at the senior level, it is said that his time in the Premier League helped the younger players in his academy.

Birmingham manager Chris Davies commented, “Tom is an excellent coach and a great addition to our first team staff as we look to build on our start to the 2024/2025 season,” in reference to the selection of Huddlestone as assistant coach. In addition to his extensive playing background, he has held coaching positions with both club and international teams.

“This will give the group a different dynamic, and I anticipate that the team will benefit from his expertise in the game. We all want him the best of luck at Birmingham City and are excited to work with him.

We wish Huddlestone all the best in his endeavours as a coach.
