Keith Hackett reacts to Chris Wood controversy as Forest-Fulham footage analysed.

Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood deservedly saw his goal stand during his team’s defeat to Fulham, but Keith Hackett slammed stars for play-acting.

The former PGMOL boss and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that the 33-year-old did not make enough contact with Antonee Robinson to merit a foul in the buildup to the goal. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side trailed at Craven Cottage on Saturday (15 February), only to draw level before halftime. That happened after Wood maintained his stellar season for Forest with another goal, which left many Fulham supporters disappointed that it had been allowed to stand.

Nottingham Forest equaliservs Fulham led to VAR check

After Emile Smith-Rowe put the hosts ahead with a bullet header from an Adama Traore cross, Wood equalised with his 18th Premier League goal of the season. That occurred after a high ball was dropped inside the Fulham penalty area, and Robinson, who is said to be garnering interest from Liverpool, was shoved to the ground by Wood as both raced to get there first. With that securing Nottingham Forest’s ability to do so, and him firing home, many of Marco Silva’s side were left appealing for a foul on their left-back.

However, both Thomas Bramall and VAR deemed that the goal was a fair one, ensuring the visitors would go in on level terms at the break.

Hackett has now expressed his thoughts on the goal being allowed to stand. Keith Hackett outlines the ‘main issue’ that troubles him regarding Chris Wood’s objective When asked by Football Insider about the decision to allow Wood’s goal, the former referee responded: “Wood is an old-fashioned centre-forward, and I believe that what we see going unpunished in the penalty area on numerous times is on the low end of the scale. “So, I believe someone is looking for something to rule out a goal. I agree with the referee here; this is a good goal, and this is football. It is a contact sport.
