Birmingham City must watch Jobe Bellingham reports with slight unease: View.

Birmingham City has made a number of excellent transfer window moves in the past few years, and this summer has been no exception.

The Blues have had an interesting few years after Jude Bellingham was sold to Borussia Dortmund in 2020.

The League One team retired the number 22 shirt that the current Real Madrid superstar was wearing in the hopes that it would have pushed the younger players to advance through the ranks at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

Since then, American entrepreneur Tom Wagner has acquired Birmingham and added NFL legend Tom Brady as a minority shareholder. Though their off-field circumstances have become much more stable, things have not been easy lately on it.

After being demoted from the Championship the previous season, Blues have made a good start to their League One campaign, although they may not be as good as they had anticipated.

The choice Jude made to sell his brother Jobe Bellingham to Sundland last summer seems to have been a poor one in the long run, despite the fact that everything behind the scenes has been working smoothly for the past year.

Jobe Bellingham has been attracting attention from across Europe

Bellingham has been fantastic since joining the Black Cats at the beginning of the 2023–24 season. In his debut season at the squad, he played in all but one of his team’s championship games.

In a 3-1 victory over Birmingham at the Stadium of Light in November 2023, he notched seven goals and an assist from attacking midfield, including a brace against Rotherham United and the game’s first goal against Birmingham.

Since the start of the new season, he has maintained his excellent play from the previous one, recording an assist in his opening game.

However, this has led to interest from not just the Premier League, but also from clubs across Europe who are hoping to capitalise on yet another wonderkid, Bellingham.

Nevertheless, Jobe extended his stay in the northeast to 2028 by signing a new contract with Sunderland in the summer.

Birmingham will be disappointed if a big money move does happen

Although they have profited from one Bellingham, there will be fears in the coming years that Jobe will make a big money move similar to his brother.

While it is true that the 18-year-old does not have Jude’s skills, that does not preclude him from growing into one of the game’s best players in the future.

As seen by their outstanding start to the current season, in which he has played a significant role, Jobe made the right option in choosing to remain with Sunderland for the upcoming campaign.

He will be aware of his ceiling, though, and if the Black Cats are not able to make it to the Premier League in the upcoming seasons, he may try to get there on his own. A scenario that could only lead to profound regrets at Birmingham.
