Leeds United has long admired West Brom manager Carlos Corberan, who has a £2 million release clause in his contract, according to Football Insider.
West Brom’s outstanding start to the season is largely attributable to Corberan, the former Leeds United coach, who continues to produce progressively outstanding work.
Having gained experience in various capacities as a manager and assistant manager, the Spaniard joined Elland Road in 2017. Before taking on his first managerial position in England with Huddersfield Town, he served as manager of the U21 team as a member of Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching staff.
A brief stay at Olympiacos fell in between his time with the Terriers and his move to West Brom in October 2022, and Corberan hasn’t looked back since.
Steve Bruce was replaced by him, and he moved the Baggies up the Championship table. They made a bold but ultimately fruitless attempt at a promotion the previous year, but they intend to try again this year.
Football Insider has now made public Corberan’s release clause, demonstrating that his success has not gone ignored.
According to reports, a team will need to spend £2 million to get the 41-year-old to walk away from The Hawthorns. Following his achievement in Yorkshire, Leeds United has been closely monitoring his work and will continue to do so; nevertheless, ‘many’ Championship opponents also hold Corberan in high regard.
Of course, Corberan has been connected to open positions elsewhere, but it seems like his contributions are still undervalued overall.
That will not be a cause for protest for West Brom. They have a better chance of keeping him in charge if he stays under the spotlight; his recent contract extension until 2027 will also assist.
There is no denying the strength of this Baggies team. Though things haven’t always been simple, Corberan has continuously performed well in a demanding atmosphere at The Hawthorns. The team is capable of contending for the playoffs once more.
Some may have believed he would be entitled to a chance at a higher level when he accomplished that, performed well at Huddersfield Town, and honed his trade under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United. His present club will be happy that this hasn’t happened and will want it to stay that way.
The Leeds United position
Corberan will inevitably be linked to a return to Leeds United when the position becomes available if there are concerns about a change.
After failing in the attempt to get promotion last year, Daniel Farke is under pressure to be successful. At £2 million, Corberan would be an inexpensive but statement addition for the Whites.
Although West Brom will undoubtedly make every effort to retain its exceptional manager, his outstanding work will undoubtedly draw attention. It will take time to see if that materializes into a practical strategy in the future.
