TNT Sports commentator thinks Nottingham Forest have a player with Champions League quality

TNT Sports commentator thinks Nottingham Forest have a player with Champions League quality.

Over the weekend, Nottingham Forest travelled to Liverpool and upset some Premier League loyalties by winning 1-0 to take a significant scalp.

Uno Espirito Santo accomplished something that not even Brian Clough could, as the Reds triumphed for the first time since 1969 in the red part of Merseyside.

Lum Hudson-Odoi’s goal in the 72nd minute gave Forest the victory; it was his first of the 2024–25 season after having scored eight goals for the Reds the previous season.

After the trip to Anfield, it’s difficult to imagine that many would have predicted Forest to remain unbeaten, with Liverpool failing to surrender a goal under Arne Slot until Saturday.

With two wins and two draws from their first four games, Forest is now sitting in a very respectable seventh place in the Premier League standings.

Numerous impressive performances were seen over the weekend, and it appears the club made some incredible acquisitions this summer in the transfer market.

Adam Summerton hails Nottingham Forest player

It’s encouraging to see that some analysts can still support their ideas with facts, even in the midst of some sloppy generalisations about Forest and their summertime spending.

Adam Summerton, a broadcaster for TNT Sports, is one of them, and he’s been amazed that Forest was able to recruit Nikola Milenkovic in the summer.

Not that he is shocked that Forest is his top pick; rather, he is shocked that the team persuaded Fiorentina to give up their elite defence for under £12 million.

“In quiet moments the Forest recruitment team must reminisce about the moment they had a £12 million offer accepted for a CL standard CB in his prime years,” he posted on X following Saturday’s game.

Milenkovic is a future Forest captain

The Serbian defender doesn’t find it strange to wear the armband. In addition to leading Fiorentina to consecutive Conference League final appearances, he currently serves as the national captain.

With his wealth of big-game experience, Milenkovic is a dream come true for the Forest team, whose members lack his level of competence in many areas.

He’s in his prime at 26 years old, and Summerton has really hit the mark. It’s really absurd to charge £12 million, and it’s about time Forest gained some credibility.

The club was rightfully made fun of when it originally emerged, signing 23 players in a single summer. But now that things have shifted, it is time to stop making sloppy assumptions about the club’s hiring practices.

With Milenkovic, Forest has struck gold, therefore, it wouldn’t be shocking if he wins the armband at any stage during the current campaign.
