Sunderland’s roster will undoubtedly suffer from Jack Clarke’s departure, but his former teammates were always certain that Romaine Mundle could step up to fill the void. Following an extended period of speculation that the 23-year-old might leave Wearside, Clarke ultimately signed for Ipswich Town last month.

Mundle only made five senior starts in the second part of the previous season because Clarke was higher up on the pecking order. However, once his fellow wide player left last month, he was elevated to Regis Le Bris’ starting lineup for the Burnley match at home. He netted the game-winning goal for Sunderland against the Clarets and added more goals against Plymouth and Portsmouth in his previous two outings.

When Neil was given the captain’s armband earlier this summer, he remarked, “Romaine has been brilliant.” “Jack was somewhat of the main guy, so it was difficult for him when he first came in, but I think he’s been one of the top players in the group ever since preseason began, especially in training. A few of Sunderland’s lesser-known players will probably play for the Under-21s against Borussia Monchengladbach in this evening’s Premier League International Cup match at Eppleton. The Black Cats will probably start a lineup akin to the one that drew 2-2 with Atletico Madrid last week, which included Tommy Watson, Poveda, Nazariy Rusyn, and Jewison Benette.
