Nottingham Forest have several players whose contracts are due to expire in summer 2025
In recent weeks, Nottingham Forest has received a few reminders concerning some of their key players’ contract issues.
During the international break, reports surfaced indicating that the Reds planned to sign new terms with Morgan Gibbs-White this
season. He still has three years on his contract, but a significant pay increase could be in the works to keep him on board for a while
longer.
Gibbs-White’s England debut, combined with rumours that Manchester City is interested in him, may accelerate any talks. Forest
understand how significant their No.10 is.
Saturday’s success over Liverpool should have prompted the club to consider someone else’s future. Ola Aina may not make the same
headlines as Gibbs-White, but he is just as important to Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, as the victory at Anfield demonstrated.
The entire back line performed admirably as the visitors shut off a strong Liverpool attack. Recording a clean sheet on Merseyside was
quite impressive.
It took a fantastic team effort to thwart the hosts’ danger, with contributions from all positions. Individual displays were also remarkable,
like Aina’s.
“Part of a fine defensive display from Forest, Aina kept the in-form Luis Diaz quiet, which is no mean feat,” Alan Shearer stated while
picking the full-back in his Premier League team of the week. The recognition was well-deserved.
Aina was fantastic during the weekend. Nuno may have found his first-choice back four, as Nikola Milenkovic, Murillo, and Alex Moreno
all performed admirably.
The Reds’ head coach’s decision to give left-back Moreno his Premier League debut meant Aina was moved to the right wing. That
adaptability is another reason why he is an important member of the squad; Nuno likes adaptable individuals, especially since he prefers
to work with a small group.
So, if the Reds needed any more encouragement to persuade Aina to write again, Saturday provided it. Furthermore, he is a very popular
member of the dressing room and contributes significantly to the overall good environment.
However, the defender’s contract expires next summer. The team invoked a one-year extension clause in his contract at the end of last
season.
“Since joining the club last summer, Ola has impressed all of us with his performances on the pitch as well as the positive attitude that he
brings to the group every day,” chief football officer Ross Wilson said at the time. “We are delighted that he will move forward with us.”
It is obviously a no-brainer for Forest to ensure that Aina rejoins them starting in the summer. He is 27 years old and will undoubtedly
play an important role in the Reds’ efforts to climb the Premier League standings.
Several other Reds players’ contracts will expire in 2025. Big decisions will have to be taken at some point.
Defender Willy Boly is among them, however the club has the option to extend his contract for another year. Striker Chris Wood’s contract
will also end in the summer, as will left-back Harry Toffolo.
Wood may be 32, but Nuno has certainly gotten the most out of him. Forest need him right now, especially with Taiwo Awoniyi still
developing his skills and another forward not joining in the summer. However, it would not be surprising if the club tried to sign a
forward man again in January.
Contracts expiring in 2025: Ola Aina, Willy Boly (club hold option for a second year), Harry Toffolo, Chris Wood, Alex Moreno (on loan
from Aston Villa with a permanent option), James Ward-Prowse (on loan from West Ham United), and Jonathan Panzo (on loan at Rio
Ave).
