Reading FC stars set new targets as 50-point mark approaches

With promotion-chasing Birmingham City, Wrexham, and Wycombe Wanderers to play at home in the final 16 games, the Royals are currently in ninth place and just one point outside the top six after their thrilling 2-1 victory over Rotherham United on Saturday. The team’s well-known safety target of 50 is now just one point away, and everyone in the camp is thinking about what comes next. Hunt has disclosed that a team meeting among players has produced a new set of internal targets.

“Wingy’s been superb and he has to be so disciplined because we know he wants to get forward and he can be a serious threat around the goal,” Hunt said. “He’s starting to creep up occasionally, and we’re trying to get him up there, but he is the one we trust with the football to change the point of attack because he can organize and make sure people are in the right places to get the ball out.” In the dressing room, he has demonstrated great leadership.

“After our pre-match briefing on Rotherham, they had a meeting with people like Yids to talk about themselves, their goals, and where they are heading. We continue to give it our all and keep the spirits high. We won’t get very far when you have people like that in your dressing room.

“After that, we have modest goals [50 points].” We’ll get started on that after the boys discussed it and put up a flag in the dressing room.”

Harvey Knibbs, who won the match on Saturday, was forced to attend the meeting but has stated that the “ambitious” aim would remain in-house.

Reaching [50 points], which is referred to as the safety barrier in this league, will be a fantastic milestone. We shall continue to work toward achieving our own goals and objectives.

“They will continue to be internal targets.” We always have high expectations for ourselves and believe we can win every game. We are good for everyone; all you need to do is look at our home record. We’ll see what we can do in each game as it comes up.

On Saturday lunchtime, League One leaders Birmingham City will be at the SCL Stadium.
