Brentford 3-1 Leyton Orient: Fabio Carvalho leads Bees fightback after early Carabao Cup scare.

A fantastic first goal from the summer addition propels Thomas Frank’s team into the fourth round.

Brentford overcame an early scare against League One side Leyton Orient before winning 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium and cruising into the Carabao Cup fourth round thanks to a spectacular first goal from Fabio Carvalho.

Thomas Frank made eight changes to the squad that had lost to Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday. The risk seemed to be paying off when home fans in west London were taken aback by defender Brandon Cooper’s early tap-in that gave Richie Wellens’ team the lead.

Before the half, though, Frank’s stand-ins rallied and responded with three goals, the best of which was an incredible overhead kick from Carvalho .

Much of the second half saw Orient stay in the match until captain Jack Simpson was substituted 20 minutes from the end, capping an inspiring performance that resulted in a cup exit.

The club, presently ranked 22nd in the third division, made a daring start, defying their lower league ranking. Jamie Donley, an outstanding Tottenham loanee, carried the ball infield from the right within the first ten minutes. He bounced an attempted through pass off Ben Mee and then struck a shot that deflected wide off Norgaard.

A few moments later, Orient’s early ambition was all that was deserved, as the opener goal proved. Diallang Jaiyesimi, a winger, used quick feet to create space and blasted a shot that whirled away to the right-back. Tom James took up position.

The equaliser did not take very long to arrive. Kevin Schade went on an incredible run and finished with a low shot that ping-ponged into the air off goalie Josh Keeley’s foot. Carvalho scored his first goal since signing from Liverpool when he leaped acrobatically to thump an overhead kick inside the post off the rebound.

After 26 minutes, Damsgaard completed the comeback, and this time, Carvalho was the creator, delivering a beautiful ball to the far post, which the Denmark winger scored with a deft diving header.

Norgaard, another countryman, scored the third goal shortly before halftime. Carvalho went down over the leg of Dom Ball of Orient on the edge of the box before the referee could determine whether to award a penalty.

Replace At the hour, Charlie Kelman had a chance to tie the score and put Orient back in it, but he was unable to get his effort past Hakon Valdimarsson’s near post despite coming clean through.

When Brentford attempted to terminate the match, Mads Roerslev fired a 20-yard attempt into the sidenetting. However, Simpson’s sending off for a second yellow card for an unnecessary rugby tackle inside.
