In response to Manchester City player Rodri’s assertions that there are too many football games played nowadays, Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers says he “totally gets” his point of view.
In addition to discussing the issues, Rodgers provided a sneak peek at the Bhoys’ matchup with Slovan Bratislava during a recent news conference. He emphasized that Bratislava has his side’s “respect,” just like every other team they play against, even if he noted that there are far tougher opponents to face in the Champions League.
In reaction to Rodri’s remarks during the news conference, Aaron Rodgers stated: “It’s something that I have mentioned before.” It’s possible that the season will last 12 months and include both domestic and international competitions. I completely appreciate where [Rodri] is coming from, but the quality of the games is more important than the quantity.
“Technical ability is the first thing to go when you’re tired, and we always want the best product for supporters.” Every football player enjoys getting paid and training, but they also want to perform at their peak level whenever possible. It makes perfect sense to be concerned about that.
“We come into every game and respect every opponent that we play,” remarked Aaron Rodgers in reference to Celtics’ next matchup against Slovan Bratislava. I use Bratislava as an example; they have played eight games to get to this point, so you can never undervalue the amount of fighting they have to do.
“They may not be trendy to some; there are clubs with longer histories, but we know they’re a team we should really respect.” However, we also recognize that we’re at home and in a great mood; all we want to do is channel that energy into the stands so that we can enjoy a fantastic evening.
