Carlos Corberan has unlocked a lethal combination that can fire West Brom to the Premier League: Opinion

In an attempt to get over their disappointing play-off loss from the previous season, West Brom has had an impressive start to the campaign.

Last season, West Brom’s attempt to gain promotion was unsuccessful as they lost to Southampton in the play-off semi-finals. Southampton went on to defeat Leeds United at Wembley Stadium to secure their Premier League spot.

The Baggies were naturally devastated by the result, but they put the setback behind them and focused on the transfer window under the new management. This time, they made winning the championship their first aim. And everything has gone according to plan thus far.

Carlos Corberan’s team is atop the Championship table after four wins, one tie, and five games played. They are one of the three unbeaten teams, along with Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United.

West Brom dispatched Portsmouth in their most recent victory, and they got going quickly. Midfielder Alex Mowatt’s brace in the second half sealed the victory, but the opening minute goal truly set the tone.

The goal was also produced via a well-known connection, one that might easily propel the Baggies back to the promised land.

Brothers and Maja ablaze

Darnell Furlong surprised the Pompey defense with a flawless throw-in down the line for Fellows with less than a minute remaining in the game. The West Brom academy alumnus reached the byline and withdrew, allowing Maja to smash past the defenseless Will Norris in front of the passing supporters.

For Corberan’s team, it was a terrific start to an even better day at work, made possible by a pairing that is showing to be a genuine pain for Championship backlines.

Fellows, who inked a new contract earlier this year, has established himself as The Hawthorns’ star player for the duration of 2024, and his four assists in the first five games of the campaign have only solidified his hold on a starting position. Maja, who has put his past injury troubles behind him, has also cemented himself as a member of the club, scoring an incredible five goals in five games.

However, the pairing of the two is starting to occur frequently. Fellows has set up three of Maja’s five goals thus far, so Championship rivals will need to be cautious if they want to avoid becoming the next team to fall victim to Corberan’s West Brom.

Making the most of the pair

After passing the academy and making a name for themselves, it is evident what Fellows is all about. When allowed to attack the byline and get to his man, he performs at his best. His body feints, stepovers, and shifts to the right foot are predictable and nearly unbeatable.

He also has a talent for hitting a fantastic ball across the box, which benefits Maja.
