‘Nonsense’ – Ally McCoist slams ‘Ridiculous’ Celtic argument after new Rangers jibe today

Ally McCoist has struck back at Celtic after Adrian Durham said Rangers are the primary beneficiaries of penalty calls in the Scottish Premiership.

Fans on both sides of Glasgow claim they are mistreated in terms of refereeing decisions, and the former Gers striker appears to be among them.

Last season, Chris Sutton and Ian Ladyman mocked “conspiracy theorists” who claimed both Old Firm clubs were unfairly penalised by authorities. However, McCoist has now taken aim at Brenden Rodgers’ side.

Adrian Durham used the chance to mock Rangers, citing their penalty statistics after mentioning Celtic’s escape from a spot kick against Hearts before being granted their own on Saturday, September 14.

Adrian Durham, speaking live on talkSPORT on Tuesday (17 September, 7:12am), stated that Rangers often receive the most of penalties in the Scottish Premiership.

McCoist immediately responded: “Don’t talk rubbish. Rangers have not taken a penalty at Celtic Park in seven years. I swear, that is ridiculous. And they’ve had around seven penalties at Ibrox.”

Durham lightened the atmosphere with a retort, adding, “You have to get into the box to be awarded a penalty, so maybe Rangers should try that at Celtic Park.”

Rangers treated unfairly in Old Firm derbies v Celtic?

There have been numerous complaints from both sets of fans over the years about the number of incorrect judgements made by referees, and there will continue to be because passionate fanbases want to protect their sides.

Teams in the Scottish Premiership, including the Gers, will always believe Celtic are on the right end of refereeing decisions, but this is impossible to prove.

Philippe Clement cannot hide behind the penalty dispute following their recent matches, with a definite “gulf” opening up between the Old Firm adversaries.

Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Callum McGregor scored for the Hoops’ sixth win in six meetings, putting pressure on Clement at Ibrox.

The Gers will next have a chance to make amends against their bitter rivals in January, and Clement’s team must still be in contention to beat Rodgers’ side to the Scottish Premiership title before then.
