Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna on Luke Woolfenden and tough decisions.

Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, has acknowledged that he will have to make some difficult selections in the upcoming weeks.

For the 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, the Blues welcomed back Wes Burns and George Hirst. Nathan Broadhead and Harry Clarke are also getting closer to being fully healthy.

With only 20 players permitted to be included in a Premier League matchday squad, Town should have 27 players available to play soon.

Woolfenden started all three Premier League games before Dara O’Shea replaced him.

Following the deadlock, McKenna remarked, “Luke’s done well across the three games.” “He’s a crucial player for us and another one adjusting to the Premier League.”

“Our goal was to motivate Dara. Arriving late makes it extremely difficult to fit in, especially if you’re a defender. However, once you’re on the squad, you can truly feel your teammates’ rivalry and contribute your own unique skills. It was crucial to initiate his action.

It’s quite standard for us not to bench centre halves when we have everyone available.

“We prefer to start with four forwards, two midfielders, and two defenders who are fresh and prepared to play.

“There’ll be games where we have a centre-half on the bench but there’ll be plenty of games where we don’t and we use the versatility of other players who can fill in slots in the back line.”
