Ian Wright says £50m Tottenham player is actually worse than Anthony Elanga at Nottingham Forest.

The Premier League seasons of Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have gotten off to divergent starts.

It would have been understandable if you had assumed going into this campaign that these two parties would currently be on opposing sides.

Having won all four of their season’s games, Forest is presently ranked seventh in the table, whereas Tottenham is ranked 13th after having only won one of their first four games.

Ian Wright has been talking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show about Forest’s season opening performance and their two wide players.

Wright has praised Forest’s management in selling Brendan Johnson and purchasing two successors for a small fraction of the cost. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga have been excellent to start this season.

Wright even went so far as to assert that Hudson-Odoi and Elanga are superior to

Anthony Elanga better than Brennan Johnson

Wright gave his opinion on both the Forest players and their Tottenham rival.

“When you consider that Brennan Johnson was sold to Tottenham for £50 million, and you then acquire those two players (Hudson-Odoi and Elanga) for £21 million, you will see that, to be honest—and this is not meant as slight to Brennan—they are both more capable of producing now than Brennan is,” Wright stated.

“Within the last few years, you would not have been able to acquire him for that kind of money, so they may have the chance, especially Hudson-Odoi, to demonstrate his abilities.”

Nottingham Forest’s transfer masterstroke

When Nottingham Forest was promoted back to the Premier League, their transfer policy has been, to put it mildly, unpredictable.

They have, nevertheless, excelled in the offensive departments.

They bought Elanga and Hudson-Odoi at deep discounts, two inspirational additions, and sold Johnson in the peak of his career.

That turned out to be a brilliant decision, as Forest now appear set to really take off and establish themselves as a Premier League team that can contend with the top 10.

In the meantime, Brendan Johnson has received criticism lately for his Spurs performances.
