Reds legend hits out at ‘BIG CHEESE’ Liverpool following Nottingham Forest loss

A Liverpool legend has said Liverpool lost the ‘psychological battle’ with Nottingham Forest after the Reds were beaten 1-0 at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool lost their first game under Arne Slot, with Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring the only goal, a second-half effort from outside the area that deflected off the post.

Nicol’s post-match comments
Steve Nicol was a vital player in Liverpool’s First Division triumphs, winning crowns in 1983/84, 1985/86, 1987/88, and 1989/90. He also won the European Cup in 1984.

Following Liverpool’s defeat, Nicol told ESPN TV: “When you come back and you’re the big cheese and you’re playing against the small fry, it’s a psychological battle.”

He went further: “Arne Slot said there were two or three good chances, I would love to know which ones they were because I only saw one.”

Prior to this shocking setback, Nicol had already written Liverpool off as title candidates, saying he was astonished by their strong start to the season but expected them to finish comfortably in the top four.
Can Liverpool rebound back quickly?
The setback ended Liverpool’s perfect start to the season and came after an international break in which players traveled throughout Europe and South America. Every Liverpool starter from the weekend represented their countries during the international window.

Slot will hope his squad can recover swiftly and put up a much better performance when they face AC Milan at San Siro in their Champions League debut on Tuesday, before returning to Premier League action against Bournemouth next weekend.

The Scottish defender added, “Right now, this [the loss to Forest] is a one-off. Ask me again in three or four weeks if this happens again, and we can have a new talk.”
