Brendan Rodgers has two big selection decisions to make as Celtic prepare for Champions League opener

Brendan Rodgers has two big selection decisions to make as Celtic prepare for the Champions League opener.

The Champions League is almost approaching, and Celtic Park will be filled with excitement and the flash and glamour of Europe’s best players.

After witnessing their club annihilate the local opposition in the first five league games of the season, Celtic supporters now have Slovene Bratislava to welcome to Paradise this week.

Celtic’s sixth league shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over Hearts tied a 118-year record for clean sheets, which will surely give Brendan Rodgers and his players confidence heading into Wednesday night.

Now, Celtic has the chance to start their Champions League campaign with a victory at home, which would help them improve their recent performance in the competition, which hasn’t been spectacular lately.

Furthermore, 67 Hail Hail thinks Rodgers needs to make two significant selection decisions in order to try and secure the victory following Hearts’ setback.

Paulo Bernardo or Arne Engels

This is a tough choice for Rodgers to make because, in fairness, neither player has done anything to warrant being benched for the big Champions League opener.

Against Rangers, Bernardo impressed Brendan Rodgers but the Celtic boss preferred Arne Engels against Hearts and the Belgian stepped up with some fine attacking play and a superbly taken penalty.

Adam Idah for Kyogo Furuhashi

Adam Idah returned to Celtic permanently this summer and was unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet against Hearts.

After having his late strike ruled offside, the Republic of Ireland international striker looked sharp and more like the player from last season in his short cameo at Celtic Park.

Yogo Furuhashi, on the other hand, was a little off pace and surprisingly missed two excellent opportunities to put the game beyond Hearts’ reach.

Idah could start against the Slovakians to provide some freshness to Rodgers’ forward line, as Kyogo has only managed one goal in his last five games this season, following his goal against Rangers.

One thing will make the Celtics manager’s supporters very happy: he or she will start. Whatever player Rodgers chooses, Celtic fans are confident that there will be sufficient talent on the pitch to achieve the elusive Champions League opening-day victory. Rodgers has a wealth of options at his disposal.
