BBC pundit names potential Dyche replacement in Everton sack verdict

Everton could turn to David Moyes if they choose to part ways with Sean Dyche, according to Nigel Reo-Coker.

Speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast (15 September), Reo-Coker stated that, while Dyche has done a fine job at Goodison Park, the pressure is mounting following four consecutive Premier League losses.
The Toffees’ 2-0 lead turned into a late 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa, keeping them at the bottom of the standings, and Reo-Coker offered ex-Toffees manager Moyes as a prospective replacement.

He said: “When you look at what’s going on now, yeah, Sean Dyche was already there, but Everton have been drifting in this direction for a long time.

“I’m not putting it out there, but there is a certain David Moyes who knows that club inside and out, but is now not managing anyone.

“The pressure is different now on Sean Dyche, where Everton might look to change the manager and bring someone else in for new ideas or a fresh start.”

Everton need a radical change if they choose to sack Sean Dyche

While Dyche is not yet on the verge of being fired at Goodison Park, any further second-half collapses like those against Bournemouth and Villa will almost certainly result in the 53-year-old’s dismissal.

David Moyes West Ham Everton

If the Blues’ boardroom – which might potentially be a sticking point in the decision-making process – does decide to pull the trigger, it’s possible they should go in an entirely other route.

Moyes’ style of play appears to be comparable to Dyche’s, but his defensive record at West Ham last season should raise red flags for those hoping to see the Scot return.

Last season, West Ham conceded 74 goals, the fourth-most in the Premier League, in stark contrast to the Toffees’ 51, which was also the fourth-best of any side despite their low rank.

With Moyes unlikely to bring much positive change compared to what Dyche is already doing at Goodison, it appears that the Blues will wait until new ownership – possibly in the form of John Textor – takes over before making a decision on Dyche’s future [Miguel Delaney, 12 September].
