Stoke City identify new head coach as permission to hold talks given green light

Breaking news from the bet365 Stadium as Jon Walters and John Coates move quickly to replace Steven Schumacher

Narcis Pelach is expected to succeed Steven Schumacher as Stoke City’s new head coach.

Pelach, 36, has built his reputation as a coach at Girona and then in the Championship, first with Carlos Corberan’s club at Huddersfield Town before joining Norwich under David Wagner last year. Norwich are said to have given Stoke permission to speak with Pelach about the new job.
Most Stoke fans may be unfamiliar with the moniker, but it has the backing of sporting director Jon Walters and chairman John Coates to take over a youthful side and soon produce positive results.
Pelach articulated his goal for a team when he told the Norwich Pink Un: “We want to be the main team and go for the game.” We want to play with arrogance, not fear or intimidate our opponents. That does not imply we have to attack all the time.

“At the same time, we want to be complete in football because one game is like a thousand games. We want to be good at defense. We want to be good at attacking. We want to be good at counter-attack. We aim to perform well in high-pressure situations. We want to be good at set plays.

“To give you an example, Manchester City are the greatest at doing one thing, and it’s pretty evident. We want to have a versatile side that can compete at any stage of the game,” he stated.

“If you’re winning, you should demonstrate your ability to defend in the final 20 minutes. If we’re losing and need to go for it, we must understand how to attack a deep block. We aim to be incredibly adaptable and complete.
