LOAN WATCH | CALEB TAYLOR MAKES DEBUT IN WYCOMBE WIN.
During the weekend, four Albion Academy grads were playing for their respective loan teams.
Caleb Taylor saw success in his first-team debut for Wycombe Wanderers of Sky Bet League One, helping the squad to a 2-1 victory over Northampton Town.
After goals from Daniel Udoh and Richard Kone negated Sam Hoskins’ early penalty shot for the Cobblers, the central defender came on in the 66th minute at Sixfields Stadium to help the Chairboys hold onto their lead until the end.
It was Matt Bloomfield’s team’s first league victory away from home. Young player Taylor will be aiming for additional action the following week when Wycombe plays Brighton’s Under-21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy. The following Saturday, Wycombe will welcome Cambridge United at Adams Park.
Josh Griffiths, the custodian, and his Bristol Rovers teammates were sadly disappointed with their 4-0 home loss against Wigan Athletic in the same tier.
Although Taylor Moore’s red card on minute 84 worsened the situation for the Gas, the damage was already done.
The Lancashire team had complete control over the game with to goals from Joe Hugill in the first half and Thelo Aasgaard and Luke Chambers in the second half. They made the most of this control by winning at Memorial Stadium.
Nevertheless, on their return to the Poundland Bescot Stadium, Reyes Cleary’s Walsall team in League Two had better luck. The attacker played the last 23 minutes of their thrilling 2-1 victory over Bradford City.
With just a few minutes of regular time remaining, the score stood at 1-1 for the Saddlers. Olly Sanderson, an attacker for the Bantams, had negated Taylor Allen’s early penalty kick for the hosts prior to halftime.
But in the final moments, Daniel Johnson scored to set off loud celebrations across the Bescot, giving Cleary’s squad its fourth league victory of the year and a boost to fourth place in the fourth-tier standings in England.
Finally, after keeping another clean sheet and winning against Halesowen Town, youthful custodian Ronnie Hollingshead maintained his winning streak at Alvechurch, a team in the Southern Premier Central League.
With yet another late drama, the goalkeeper’s team won 1-0 at Lye Meadow. With 84 minutes remaining, Dan Shaw, making his debut for the team, scored to give the Church a three-game winning streak and move them to the top of the standings.
After coming back to Alvechurch for a second loan stint, Hollingshead has started the last three games and has maintained three straight clean sheets without giving up a goal.
