Dave King plots stunning Rangers chairman return as he maps out two year plan

The South African has offered to replace John Bennett, who stepped down

Dave King has outlined a two-year plan for Rangers, including seeking foreign funding, and is open to a surprise return as chairman.

This weekend, John Bennett stepped down as chair due to health considerations, and John Gilligan took over as interim chair. But South African King, 61, is open to a surprise comeback at Ibrox, believing he can help steady the ship after a dismal start to the season.

According to the Daily Record, King believes he is the best candidate for the position and has proposed a two-year plan to recruit new investors. “I think I might be the best person to do it for two years,” he remarked. “I don’t want to do it for four or five years, but I know the club well enough and believe it’s a two-year position.

“I’m willing to do it. Yes, I would. I realise what is involved. I’ll come in, stabilise things, put the right people in place, get the club running smoothly, and at the very least give it direction and a plan. However, part of that will be for me to find new investors willing to make major investments in the club.

“Based on the conversations I’ve had, I believe there is enough investor interest in those sectors to invest. Steven Gerrard is now in Saudi Arabia. Football is quite popular there. There is still a lot of interest in America, where people consider football and other sports as positive. Rangers are a lot more appealing adversary and chance than, say, Sunderland or Brighton.

“We’ll be in Europe, and with the correct amount of funding, we should be able to march on and dominate in Scotland. At this point, we need people who understand the club, know how it operates, and are eager to take on the challenge.

“My thoughts have always been not to return as chairman because I believed I had completed my crisis. To be honest, I did not foresee another catastrophe in my lifetime. But a stranger cannot enter.

“There is no use in hiring a guy from London and paying him £200,000 per year to be the club’s chairman. So I rethought it. I’ve spoken with some other folks, and I believe they would like me to return.”
