Rumor: DQ To Replace Seahawks’ Pete Carroll?

Dan Quinn has been a game-changer for the Dallas Cowboys defense since his debut in 2021. After Quinn took over, Dallas‘ defense—which was among the worst in the NFL in 2020—became one of the best in the league.

Quinn’s plan has clearly had an impact, even though part of that may be attributed to personnel adjustments, most notably the 2021 draft selection of star pass-rusher Micah Parsons.

Seahawks’ Pete

Quinn’s stellar performance in Dallas has made him a favorite to take over as head coach once more. The former coach of the Atlanta Falcons chose to stay with the Cowboys throughout the summer despite interviewing for many other positions. Watch out for the most recent rumor, though.

If longstanding coach Pete Carroll decides to retire, Quinn would be on the Seattle Seahawks’ radar, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. “Retired Pete Carroll to Seattle? Although I don’t believe it, I’ve heard a lot over the past several weeks from individuals in these circles—that is, the people who work in these circles and the coaching carousel circles—that Dan Quinn would be Pete Carroll’s successor in Seattle if he were to retire at the end of this season.” On The Rich Eisen Show, Breer stated.

One reason why an opportunity in Seattle could be so enticing is due to Quinn’s past connections with the club. The 53-year-old first joined the Seahawks as a defensive line coach and assistant head coach in 2009 and 2010, then after a two-year stint with the Florida Gators, returned to lead the “Legion of Boom” defense in 2013 and 2014.

Quinn helped the Seahawks win their first Super Bowl title, and they nearly won another before he left to coach the Falcons.

Breer points out that Carroll’s decision to take off his headset is the only thing holding this possibility together. But, the 72-year-old is the league’s oldest coach, so Seattle might not have to look far for a new bench manager very soon.

It would also need Quinn to choose to leave Dallas. It’s important to note that Quinn has told Mike Fisher of CowboysSI.com several times how much he enjoys working at The Star and how much he wants to “finish the job” in Dallas.

Quinn and the Cowboys have already secured their postseason position and have higher objectives in mind, while Carroll and the Seahawks are fighting for their playoff survival.
