FA release statement as Everton, Liverpool and Arne Slot all charged after Goodison chaos
Liverpool boss Arne Slot, assistant Sipke Hulshoff and both the Reds and Everton have been slammed with a Football Association disciplinary complaint as the fall-out from Wednesday’s Merseyside derby continues.
Following the final whistle of the contentious 2-2 Premier League tie at Goodison, Slot was sent off after an on-field altercation with referee Michael Oliver.
The incident was mentioned in the match report by the official, along with the post-match turmoil that led to the dismissal of Sipke Hulshoff, Curtis Jones (midfielder for Liverpool), and Abdoulaye Doucoure (forward for Everton).
Following the Blues’ contentious equalizer by James Tarkowski in the 98th minute, which earned them a tie, Doucoure ridiculed the away end.
Jones reacted, and players from both teams, along with police and stewards, got into a brawl.
Both teams, together with Slot and Hulshoff, are now in the dock as a result of the FA’s decision; each side has until next Wednesday to reply to the accusations.
Because of this, Slot and Hulshoff can both keep their spots in the Liverpool bench for Sunday’s Premier League match against Wolves.
Slot, who is reported to have allegedly attacked an assistant referee after the match, is facing the risk of an extended touchline ban having already served a one-game suspension in December for accruing three cautions.
Hulshoff, meantime, has been prosecuted both for his red card and his subsequent reaction to the removal.
Everton and Liverpool can expect to be punished with a penalties should they be proven guilty. Newcastle United and Aston Villa were punished £20,000 and £30,000 respectively after being censured for a similar offense following a half-time altercation in the tunnel on Boxing Day.
