Coventry City supporters are “disgusted” and “embarrassed” after other fans vented their rage at club owner Doug King during Saturday’s game against Watford.

Since taking over from previous owners Sisu, the businessman has helped rebuild the Sky Blues squad with 17 new players in the last three transfer windows. He has also transformed the club’s Ryton training ground into a top-class facility and paid for improvements at the CBS Arena to make it feel like home.

King’s commitment to success has resulted in increased support staff and equipment for the manager. On the pitch, City has reached the Championship play-off final and FA Cup semi-finals in consecutive seasons, reviving the club’s reputation after a period of decline.

The executive chairman has faced criticism for recent decisions, including high ticket prices for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match with Tottenham and the club’s failure to bring in more reinforcements on transfer deadline day and in the free agent market, where former loan player Matty James was linked.

When questioned why the team hasn’t recruited more strength, Robins answered that “…there’s only so much you can do financially and we’re at that stage,” referring to crucial midfielder Ben Sheaf’s injury since the pre-season.

At Vicarage Road, a handful of spectators booed as others sang Doug King’s song. That resulted in an instant outcry on social media.

What others have been saying…

Andy_Cov:If I’m not mistaken, many were booing Doug King. Please make yourself known publicly, with a strong argument why you believe you’re accurate. Also, I’d like to know who you supported in the previous 15 years, prior to December 2022. Be my guest; I’m all ears.

Sky Blue Crampy remarked, “Listening to some of our own fans booing the DK song after such a positive performance (so far) is a new low.” It seems like some supporters want us to fail. You have single-handedly destroyed the mood today.

Moz Baker:I’m intrigued by the booing during the Doug King chant today. I am not sure how anyone can defend it as a decent thing to do.

Ben is interested by the notion we have a song for the owner. Quite unique. I won’t sing it, but others can if they want to. There is no need to boo; simply refrain from participating if you feel so inclined.

Anthony Hornsby: “Morons.” Unappreciative morons.

Jodie Turner is really disgusted. I can’t recall the last time I felt humiliated by our fan base.

Twist ‘n’ Shout: As an owner, you only have a limited amount of time before supporters question your decisions. It’s slowly happening. He’s done a couple things recently that I can see causing concern among supporters, but booing a chant in your audience is unusual.

Dan Harvey: Very strange.

Ellis Romero cautions against making unrealistic expectations.

According to Wayne Everitt, the situation stems from Doug’s apparent attitude on free agents, specifically Matty James, and the £30 Spurs ticket price. Here’s the thing: if Matty James had been good enough, we would have signed him in the window. Wait till our tight arse fans get promoted before making any decisions on Spurs’ pricing.

Nogeye: It’s insane. We’ve lately developed a strong sense of entitlement, whether it’s transfers, team photographs, or clothing! Mental. It’s strange to be booing the finest chairman in recent history.

Macca YT: It’s easy to forget where we were few years ago. I, for one, thank Robins and the owner for getting us out of the shitstorm. I’m pleased with today’s game and believe we’re beginning to show what we’re capable of. We just need to keep it up for 90 minutes and then we can start thrashing teams.

Peter Dale: Without DK, we may not have a club to watch.

Nick Rogers: Clueless. Just do not sing it.

Max: Absolutely insane.

Neil Baskerville:I’m sad to inform that I’m banning more and more “City fans” on social media – stupid, entitled fools.

Jones: It was gloomy. There was barely a peep from those fans thereafter.

Waddo said, “If I were him, I wouldn’t put another penny in.”

Rick Cushen: Are you booing the DK song? Definitely a new low for us.

Ant: opinions are opinions and I understand the displeasure that we didn’t get a CM as we look to be in severe need for one. Doug tends to be against free transfers and loans, but booing merely spreads negativity around the supporters and the club, which is beneficial for absolutely nothing!

Scotty is crazy and has short memory. The club has never been in better condition, both on and off the field.
