The Ipswich academy talent who would be worth more than Hutchinson by 2024.
Before the Premier League season began, supporters of Ipswich Town reminisced over their team’s past success at the highest level of English football.
One moment that will undoubtedly stand out is when iconic former Tractor Boys manager George Burley miraculously secured a UEFA Cup qualification spot for the Suffolk side at the end of the 2000/01 season, a ridiculous achievement given that the underdogs had only been promoted to the top division the previous season.
After a season of success, Ipswich was relegated. However, Kieran McKenna now has the potential to restore Ipswich’s footballing reputation in the present.
It hasn’t gone as planned so far, with no victories in his side’s first three Premier League games, but he will be hoping that players like Omari Hutchinson can shine in the future to help the Tractor Boys thrive.
Hutchinson moved to Ipswich.
McKenna will be hoping that Hutchinson performs well in the Premier League, having gotten the most out of him last season in the league below during an impressive loan stay.
Last season, the ex-Chelsea youth scored 11 goals and assisted six in all competitions while on loan in Suffolk. He worked effectively with George Hirst and Conor Chaplin in the attacking positions at Portman Road, resulting in automatic promotion.
His excellent play in the Championship towards the end of last season would come at a high cost for McKenna’s side this summer, as his price had skyrocketed, and Chelsea were not about to let the 5’9″ attacker return to Portman Road for nothing.
Hutchinson was a record-breaking £20 million buy for the newly promoted club this summer. However, he may struggle to maintain his new team’s top-flight status.
