Erling Haaland double sinks Brentford after Wissa shocks Manchester City.
Erling Haaland has now scored nine goals in Manchester City’s first four Premier League games, breaking Wayne Rooney’s record of eight in 2011-12. In an exciting fight, his last double secured three points for the champs, giving them a perfect 12 out of 12.
The No. 9’s aims were received with what looked to be a subdued celebration following the recent death of a close family member, Ivar Eggja. Haaland has a mind-boggling 99 out of 103 in all events under City colors. The Premier League case against the club begins on Monday, and there is no hint that their players are distracted.
City deny any wrongdoing, but players such as Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson, and Jack Grealish may be concerned about the impact of the 100+ counts on their success against Brentford. The triumph against the last team to defeat Pep Guardiola’s team in open play, 45 home games ago (Real Madrid won by penalty shootout in April), started with a scare.

After 40 seconds, Thomas Frank’s team moved upfield. The ball was hoisted to the far post, Keane Lewis-Potter headed down, John Stones miskicked, Ederson flailed, and Yoane Wissa slipped in.
Guardiola turned away in disgust. The City nearly enabled Bryan Mbeumo to enter, but Rico Lewis blocked his shot, leaving Frank in despair.
City, roused, bombarded the visitors’ goal. Grealish was in traditional wing-play mode, driving down his left side. De Bruyne began looking for space. Corners were claimed to the right. The blue wave continued coming, and as it frequently does, it penetrated the foe.
Mateo Kovacic sent the ball to Kyle Walker, who passed it to De Bruyne. Haaland’s right-footed shot beat Ethan Pinnock and Mark Flekken.
Haaland scores simply and wonderfully.Rodri’s ability to manage a game is unrivaled, but his presence on the bench was missed as the Bees once again punched a hole in City. This was on the hosts’ right, and they claimed a corner, but the champs escaped.
Not Brentford, seconds later. The City/Guardiola approach to football was straightforward. Haaland rushed forward from just inside his own half after Ederson sent a long ball into the Bees’ center third. A charming barge removed Pinnock, and Haaland took one or two touches before carefully sandwedged over Flekken.
Open at the back, City launched an attack at full speed. Grealish crossed for Ilkay Gündogan, as Christian Nørgaard chopped away. A Grealish shot from a corner was blocked. Wissa limped off following a Kovacic challenge, which was recorded in Darren Bond’s book.
Rodri took over for Kovacic in the second half, while Josko Gvardiol replaced Lewis as the midfielder. Still, a shaky Ederson pass threatened to lead to a Brentford equalizer.
But no one showed up, so City was pleased to shorten the proceedings. Then they awoke: Rodri found De Bruyne, and a pass from the right earned a corner. The ball landed at Savinho’s feet, but he blasted over.

Following a series of tries, Flekken pawed away a deft Grealish curler and tipped over a right-footed Haaland rocket. After sprinting in, Gvardiol squared to Savinho, and the Brazilian’s attempt was once again blocked by the bustling Flekken.
Haaland was millimeters away from matching Liverpool’s Jack Balmer, the last player to score a top-flight hat-trick in three consecutive games, in 1946. But he struck Flekken’s right post.
You wouldn’t bet on the phenomena doing this anytime soon.
