City boss ‘cursed’ after latest Nunez injury

Johannes Hoff Thorup feels like Norwich City are cursed after yet another injury blow for Marcelino Nunez.

The Chilean barely returned from a hamstring injury that had kept him out for more than a month on Saturday, but he was seen with a bloodied ankle after a tackle in Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss to Preston at Carrow Road.

His head coach stated that the injury will keep him out of Saturday’s trip to Hull, adding that he couldn’t help but feel that the Canaries’ luck had run out.
“It seems like there’s a curse with our midfield players this season,” said Thorup, who is also without Emi Marcondes and Amankwah Forson, while captain Kenny McLean is questionable for Saturday due to sickness.

“Marcelino got a tackle on his foot in the second half, so it’s swelled. “I don’t expect him to be ready for training or the game.”We rushed him in for a scan because his injuries appeared to be significant after the game, and he was very emotional. That also caused us some anxiety because it was blue and did not look particularly pleasant.

“The scan was fine, and luckily for him and us, it was not fractured. That is fantastic news, but I believe Saturday is too soon for him.

The news comes as a personal stomach punch for Nunez, who missed only one game due to injuries in the final seven months of last season but has already missed 11 this season.

“He is [frustrated],” added the 35-year-old. “It’s frustrating for both the group and him, of course. He wants to play like everyone else and be included.

“Let’s see how it goes, since from his standpoint, it’s most likely simply about resting. Hopefully, it will improve in a few days, and then it will come down to how much pain he can bear.

“Pain is unavoidable whether you have a swollen foot or an ankle injury. But he’s probably fully capable of enduring that.”
