Aston Villa have a star with a “massive future” for England in Morgan Rogers, according to Ian Darke.
Rogers, 22, has 17 goal contributions in all competitions this season, putting a solid claim for the national team under Thomas Tuchel, who starts his first games next month.
The Villans defeated Tottenham in the FA Cup and continue in the Champions League’s last 16 stage, with their knockout opponents revealed next week (21 February).
Rogers back to his best after ‘lull’
Darke, a TV commentator, told Villa News that Rogers has overcome a “lull” to regain some of his early-season form.
The offensive midfielder signed a new contract in November, extending his stay at Villa Park until 2030.
While he was poor in Wolves’ defeat, as were the most of his colleagues, Rogers was spectacular both before and after that all-Midlands confrontation, with a hat-trick against Celtic and a goal and assist against Spurs.
His England debut came in November, and the two caps he earned there are expected to be the first of many, especially with more veteran players set to retire after the 2026 World Cup.
“Rogers started the season like a house on fire, had a bit of a lull as I understand it, but he’s obviously back in form now,” claimed Darke.
“I like how he sprints and engages opponents from the number 10 position; it gives Villa a lot of vitality.
“He offers a massive future for his club and for England as well.”
