UEFA sheepish at prospect of 200k+ fans at Rangers v Liverpool Europa League Final

Dublin is preparing itself as UEFA starts to make backup plans in the event that Rangers, Liverpool, or even both clubs advance to the Europa League Final. The Republic of Ireland’s capital, Dublin’s Aviva Stadium can hold 51,700 spectators, but that number will only include the Ibrox supporters who travel across the water in such a scenario.

As a backup plan and public viewing area, UEFA has previously reserved the adjacent 82,000-capacity Croke Park stadium.

But even that might not be enough to hold the massive crowds of fans traveling, as UEFA acknowledged last week that organizing such an event would be “extremely challenging.”

All the talk around Rangers, Liverpool, and the Europa League Final has its roots in remarks made this week by Theodore Theodoridis, the general secretary of UEFA.

 

Even though the UEFA employee did not mention names in his report, it is easy to infer what he meant.

Theodoridis stated, “Under certain circumstances, this might end up being the most challenging for us because of the potential teams that could qualify.”

“We are aware that they will bring a number of fans who do not have tickets, and there is also the matter of possible public viewing locations.
