In Week 16, the Saints and Rams square battle in a crucial matchup.

All 32 NFL teams have three games remaining in the regular season, and tonight’s matchups will begin Week 16. The stakes are higher since both the Saints (7-7) and Rams (7-7) have postseason hopes going into Thursday Night Football. Before kickoff, here’s what you need know about this showdown.

CHRIS OLAVE BACK IN THE MIX

Dennis Allen confirmed that Chris Olave will return and play against the Rams. The Saints offense was able to move the football well against the Giants despite not having No. 12 in the mix. He’s a huge part of the scheme, which will hopefully open up the offense some more for New Orleans. He’s been their best receiver this season, and a big game calls for big players to step up in big moments.

SOLVING FOR KYREN WILLIAMS

The Rams rushing attack is one of the big reasons they’re having success, but it doesn’t stop there. Their receivers do a really nice job blocking on the perimeter, something Dennis Allen was quick to praise when talking about their corps. One of the things I asked defensive coordinator Joe Woods this week on how to combat that is to ensure the corners have good eye discipline and be able to stay with the play. The New Orleans defense did a nice job shutting down Saquon Barkley and the Giants last week, so let’s see if lightning can strike twice.

MAKE MATTHEW STAFFORD UNCOMFORTABLE

The Saints’ pass rush just finished with seven sacks, which was quite outstanding. Given his strong play, Matthew Stafford will want to move the ball fast to avoid the sly New Orleans pass rush. Although they will only have a brief window of opportunity to influence the Rams quarterback, they must succeed if they are to pressure Stafford into making poor choices and maintain the momentum.

FULL STEAM AHEAD OFFENSIVELY

It would be terrible to see regression in areas like the 3rd Down offense and Red Zone. Entering this game on a slight hot streak in both categories, Derek Carr will need to make sure he maintains it for the Saints. Regaining Chris Olave will undoubtedly be beneficial, but the problems won’t end there. Kendre Miller (ankle) returning to the mix would also be a very devious addition to what New Orleans could accomplish offensively. Once again, they’ll be without Ryan Ramczyk (knee), so Landon Young and the offensive line will be put to the test.
