David Moyes hopes to utilize his team’s three-game winning streak to deal a severe blow to his rival’s title drive when
Everton and Liverpool square off in the Premier League this evening.
The Blues have rediscovered themselves since Sean Dyche’s firing, even though Bournemouth defeated Everton in
the FA Cup last weekend. They defeated Tottenham Hotspur (the 3-2 scoreline doesn’t accurately reflect the style of
the victory) and Leicester City at Goodison Park and narrowly defeated Brighton on the South Coast.
Naturally, Arne Slot’s Liverpool, who will increase the lead at the top of the table to nine points with a victory this
evening, will present Moyes with the toughest test of his second stint at Everton.
Storm Darragh’s gusty winds forced the cancellation of this match, which was rescheduled for December. Even
though Everton is well above the relegation zone, a victory here would put the Toffees in the middle of the table.
However, it won’t be simple. Liverpool is one of the most talented and well-rounded teams in Europe, and they
haven’t lost on the road in the Premier League this year. Everton is currently dealing with a number of injuries.
Everton team news
Everton are missing a range of first-team stars as they head into the Merseyside derby, with concerns in attack.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja, Youssef Chermiti and Dwight McNeil are all ruled out for the foreseeable
future.
Orel Mangala also lost his season at Brighton at the end of January due to a knee injury. Charly Alcaraz, a new
signing who made an impression on his debut over the weekend, partially makes up for the Belgium international’s
defeat.
There are defense-related problems as well. Vitalii Mykolenko is uncertain, and Seamus Coleman is still out of
commission. Ashley Young, 39, may be forced into a left-back position as a result, which is problematic in and of
itself considering that Moyes has disclosed that Nathan Patterson is out due to a hamstring strain.
Everton will have to endure, soak up pressure and attack on the counter. Luckily, there’s one forward in particular
who will be ready to inflict damage on Liverpool, perhaps in a similar way to one Andy Johnson.
Time for Everton’s new Andy Johnson to hurt Liverpool
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp described Illiman Ndiaye as “dynamite” earlier in the campaign, with the
winger’s pace and potency down the flanks causing all sorts of problems for opponents.
He was a shining star during the months under Dyche, but since Moyes took over, he has improved his game and
scored in each of Everton’s last three Premier League triumphs.
Ndiaye, who can play on both sides of the front line, isn’t simply a goal scorer either. According to Sofascore, the 24-
year-old has averaged 2.5 dribbles and 6.3 successful duels per top-flight game this season, which speaks volumes
about his suitability for the impending match.
With such a dynamic and electrifying set of skills, the Senegal star may be the bane of Liverpool’s evening,
potentially proving to be Moyes’ next version of one-time Toffees phenomenon Andy Johnson.
