A popular town centre bakery is on the market after closing its doors during the festive period.
The Tray Bake, located on Sidmouth Street in Devizes, closed on Christmas Eve 2024 as the company transitioned from having a physical shop to exploring new ways to sell its goods.
The company declared that it will continue to accept new orders and remain accessible at market stalls through 2025, but it would close its brick-and-mortar store.
A spokeswoman wrote on Facebook: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closing of our beautiful pink boutique on Sidmouth Street, Devizes.
“Being a business owner is incredibly unexpected, and while we have had numerous successes as a company, we have also had obstacles that have brought us to this conclusion.
“We are so grateful to have been given the opportunity to have a shop front that has enabled us to learn and grow but has also given us the insight that this isn’t the direction we want the business to continue in at this time.”
Since its closure, the Sidmouth Street flat has been vacant and is currently listed for rent at £625 per calendar month.
The property is a Grade II listed building with an additional apartment above the business, which is not included.
Jones Robinson, an estate agency, describes the property as “well presented” and in an ideal location for another independent store to open a shop or cafe.
The listing stated, “Sidmouth Street is a popular location for independent retailers.” The property is situated between Morrisons and Sainsbury’s supermarkets.
“One hour’s free parking is permitted along Sidmouth Street.”
The firm also stated that the apartment is ready for immediate occupancy as the search for a business to take it on continues.
The Tray Bake’s demise brought pain to its many loyal customers, who were disappointed to see the shop go.
Jemma Brown responded to the news at the time, saying: “Really sorry to hear this, guys. “Keep doing what you’re doing, and best of luck with everything off the high street.”
Sam Waghorn said, “I’m sorry to hear this; my daughter and I enjoy having tea and cake in your wonderful shop.” “Good luck with your future plans.”
