Former Sheffield Wednesday and Celtic marksman Gary Hooper has joined the free agent market at the age of 37.
Hooper, once regarded as one of the EFL’s most lethal strikers, scored 31 goals in 89 appearances at Hillsborough.
He formerly worked for Celtic, Norwich City, and Scunthorpe United.
In October, he moved to Kettering Town of the Southern League Premier Division Central, the seventh division of English football.
He helped the team go to the FA Cup second round before being knocked out by Doncaster Rovers.
Hooper’s resignation by mutual consent was confirmed ahead of Kettering’s weekend match against Barwell.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Poppies said: “KTFC can confirm that experienced forward Gary Hooper has left by mutual consent.”
Gary has formerly played for Celtic, Norwich City, and Barnet.” The club would like to thank him for his contributions to the Poppies and wish him further success in the future.
Nile Ranger, a former Owls forward, continues to play for Kettering at Latimer Park.
The 33-year-old spent time on loan in S6 after starting out with Newcastle United, who let him go in 2013.
