‘Brilliant’: David Seaman seriously impressed by ‘top drawer’ Everton player vs Man United

Everton were spirited on the road last weekend, but once again failed to find that killer instinct to turn their chances into goals.

The winners were Manchester United, and two penalties turned out to be the deciding factor, giving Jordan Pickford no chance in a 2-0 defeat.

Even so, David Seaman was astounded by what the 30-year-old accomplished at Old Trafford, when he made six stops, one of which particularly stood out to him.

What David Seaman said about Jordan Pickford

The renowned English custodian, speaking on his podcast Seaman Says, then went on to his weekly section where he discussed his Save of the Week.

But this time he felt conflicted.

Because he was sandwiched between two of his countrymen, he even requested the pundits to make the decision for him because he was unable to discern between the skill of Aaron Ramsdale in stopping Bruno Fernandes’ long-range half-volley around the post and the skill of Jordan Pickford in stopping a free kick.

He later chose the latter because of their friendly relationship, but not before praising the former Sunderland player.

“I’m struggling because there were some really good saves all around,” he asserted. However, there were two upper drawers.

“Ivan Toney’s save and Jordan Pickford’s save from Fernandes are the two that come to mind, and I may even have to share them with you.”

“Because Jordan’s top hand was excellent; he nearly used his bottom hand before changing direction and making an excellent save.”

Because Aaron was starting in a high position and had experienced what it is to, he had to recover quickly, which made his save all the more impressive.

Everton’s defence has been lacking in recent weeks

It is regrettable to observe that the only bright spot, which they once took great satisfaction in—their unwavering stability even in the face of reckless attacks—has vanished in recent weeks.

Hard to argue against their recent decline in defence, even though they still have the fourth-best defence in the Premier League—only David Raya has more clean sheets than Pickford.

After all, in the few games they have won this season, the opposition has typically not scored and the victory has been by a narrow margin.

Given that Burnley, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace have all lost to the Toffees in recent months without scoring, their only chance of winning is to frustrate their opponents and secure a victory.

But after giving up 11 goals in their last six games—as opposed to only five in the six prior—they lost their last clean sheet in January.

They are obviously unable to depend on their assault, and they have little chance of winning if their defence is not flawless. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that their recent lack of focus has led to an extension of their winless streak.
