Rangers ‘atrocious’ as fury emerges over new public financial reveal from Ibrox

Being without a chairman and CEO for a significant portion of this season, the Gers haven’t exactly been the best off the field. Fraser Thornton and Patrick Stewart didn’t begin their new roles at the Glaswegian group until December.

The Light Blues appear to have improved their on-field performance as a result of their uncertainties off the field, but some poor management has nonetheless sparked protests by Rangers supporters against the boardroom in recent weeks. 

Rangers are criticized by Gary Keown following Philippe Clement’s admission.

After Philippe Clement acknowledged that the Bears lacked the funds to acquire Lyall Cameron during the winter transfer window, Gary Keown blasted the team.

The columnist for the Scottish Mail on Sunday is incensed because the Gers were only able to sign the Dundee midfielder on a pre-contract arrangement.

The Belgian manager acknowledges that he desired the 22-year-old immediately, but the Light Blues were unable to do so because of the cost.

“Just look at Rangers, who no longer have enough money, according to manager Clement, to buy Cameron out of Dundee before the end of his contract.” Keown wrote in the Sunday, February 9, print edition of the Scottish Mail on page 92: “That’s what years and years of having to pony up to compensate for atrocious recruitment, endless losses, and useless management of assets get you.”

At Ibrox, Nils Koppen is attempting to change the tide.

Although the Gers’ hiring practices have been poor in recent years, Nils Koppen appears to be making adjustments. Since being named the technical director earlier this season, the Belgian leader, who joined the Glaswegian team in January 2024, has gained more clout.

Over the past month, supporters have witnessed a number of prospects depart on loan or gain greater playing time in the starting lineup as a result of Koppen’s decisions regarding the Bears’ youth system. In recent games, Clement has consistently given players like Bailey Rice and Findlay Curtis chances.

Fans at Ibrox will also be thrilled to see players like Connor Barron and Clinton Nsiala contribute significantly to the team this season. Cameron’s acquisition will only help the Gers achieve their apparent goal of reducing the average age of the team.

Supporters will be thrilled about his coming in the summer, even though they may be disappointed to hear that the Bears lacked the money to sign him in the middle of the season.
