A significant fire broke out at a building on Lockwood Road in Huddersfield on Friday night, prompting a substantial response from the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS). The incident was reported around 10:08 PM, with at least six fire crews from Huddersfield, Rastrick, Meltham, and Slaithwaite dispatched to combat the blaze. Lockwood Road was subsequently closed at the junction with St Thomas’ Road to facilitate firefighting efforts.
The affected building, measuring approximately 25 by 25 meters, was reported to be 50% involved in the fire. Firefighters utilized five large jets, two hose reels, and two aerial appliances to control the flames. Due to the nature of the calls, two additional appliances and one aerial unit were mobilized by control prior to the arrival of the first teams. A spokesperson for WYFRS detailed the deployment, stating:
“Appliances attended from: Huddersfield x two, Rastrick, Meltham, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield and Bradford aerial with support from Mirfield, Featherstone command unit with assistants from Hunslet, Skelmanthorpe welfare unit.”
As of now, there have been no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities have advised residents in the vicinity to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke. Motorists are urged to avoid the area until the situation is fully resolved and the road is reopened.
