‘Strange’: BBC pundit couldn’t believe Brendan Rodgers’ comments about ‘sublime’ Celtic winger yesterday

BBC pundit brands Brendan Rodgers’ post-match comments about Celtic winger ‘strange’

Rory Loy, a BBC analyst, described Brendan Rodgers’ post-match comments about Celtic winger James Forrest as’strange’.

According to Celtic’s manager, Forrest is their finest winger due to his brilliance on the sides.

Rodgers also mentioned that Forrest has struggled to receive the amount of play he wants, and these statements perplexed BBC commentator Rory Loy.

According to Loy [BBC Sportsound], the interview may have given the impression that James Forest was over 40 years old.

“To label him as your best winger, he hasn’t played much in the last couple of years due to the intensity of the game.

“But for the last three years, he’s just not been selected because the managers at the time believed they had better options.

“But he came on today and was fantastic. Superb.

“That’s how you make the starting eleven. You need to take your 20 or 30 minutes off the bench. Come on and make an impression.

“But I thought that was a weird appraisal of James Forest’s situation given that he is only 32.

“And to me, to my mind, he could go and play 90 minutes no bother at full intensity.”

I honestly don’t get why Loy is perplexed by Rodgers’ remarks, given he appears to agree with everything the Celtic manager said.

Maybe it was the tone of Rodgers’ comments that threw Loy off, but I thought Forrest came on and really galvanized the Celtic team into action in the last phases of the game.

The 32-year-old winger still has some value to give Celtic. Forrest, as evidenced by his performance yesterday, can be a useful weapon for Rodgers when coming off the bench.

But I disagree with Loy’s assumption that he could play at full energy for 90 minutes. If that were the case, Rodgers would have used him far more this season than he did.
